Retail Store Security: CCTV & Alarms for Melbourne Shopfronts

September 27, 2026

Reduce shoplifting and after-hours risk with a retail security system built for Melbourne shopfronts. CCTV and alarms from Auztech Security.

Retail security has two very different jobs to do: deterring and documenting theft during trading hours, and protecting the premises after the shutters come down. Both need to be part of the same plan.

During Trading Hours: What Actually Reduces Shoplifting

Visible cameras at entry points and above high-value displays are proven to reduce opportunistic theft — not because they catch every incident, but because visible security camera installation changes behaviour before it happens. Point-of-sale coverage also protects staff from disputed transaction claims, which is a more common use of footage than most retailers expect.

After Hours: Where the Real Risk Often Sits

An empty shopfront overnight is a different risk to a shop full of customers. A monitored business alarm system that alerts you — or a monitoring centre — the moment a door or window is breached gives you a response window that CCTV alone doesn't provide.

Shopping Centre vs Standalone Shopfront

Centre-based tenancies often have shared security and access arrangements you need to work within, while a standalone shopfront gives you full control over your own system — including exterior camera placement covering the footpath and any rear loading access.

What a Well-Specified Retail System Includes

Entry and exit camera coverage, angled to capture faces clearly rather than just the tops of heads
Point-of-sale area coverage
Stockroom and rear-entry monitoring
A monitored alarm covering after-hours break-in risk
Remote app access so owners can check the store without being on-site

Multi-Location Retailers

If you operate more than one store, a consistent system across locations makes it far easier to manage footage requests, staff training, and incident response — rather than every location running different, incompatible gear.
